Ruby Pickens (1880-1974), far right, and her family: Brother Champ Pickens, far left, mother Fannie Short Pickens, second from left, and father William King Pickens. The family lived in Livingston, Sumter County, in west Alabama. Ruby was known for collecting folklore, folk music, and slave narratives in the region.
