Montgomery native Percy Julian (1899-1975) was a pioneering chemist whose research with plant chemical compounds had far-reaching effects on a number of industries, including medicine and food products. This painting, which hangs in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., was painted in 1952 by Richard Ruh Epperly.
