Renowned photographer Prentice Herman “P. H.” Polk took this photo of Tuskegee resident Mildred Hansen Baker in his studio in 1937. A native of Bessemer, Polk studied photography at Tuskegee Institute, studied additionally in Chicago, and in 1927 returned to Tuskegee. He opened his own commercial studio that year and the following year became head of the Photography Department at the institute.
