This grist mill, known as the Old Mill or Old Mill House, was built in 1927 during the formation of the Mountain Brook community in Jefferson County. It is a replica of Perryman's Mill, which opened in the area around 1870 and closed in 1887. The replica was built to promote a "rustic" image of the new planned community in the hopes of attracting residents seeking to escape the bustle of nearby Birmingham.
