Noccalula Falls

Noccalula Falls in Gadsden is a 90-foot waterfall located in a city park. The name is said to come from a legend about a Cherokee woman, Noccalula, who jumped to her death at the site to escape a forced marriage. It most likely derives, however, from the Cherokee term ama uqwalelvyi, which translates roughly as “place where water thunders” and is also the source for the name of Amicalola Falls in northwestern Georgia.
