The National Memorial for Peace and Justice and the associated Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration opened in Montgomery in 2018 to commemorate and interpret the history of lynching in the United States. A project of the Equal Justice Initiative, the memorial features 800 steel columns suspended from the ceiling that are inscribed with the names of more than 4,000 lynching victims.
