Montgomery County Courthouse Sit-in

Alabama State College history professor Lawrence Dunbar Reddick (far left) stands with several students in the lobby of the Montgomery County Courthouse after a protest of the facility's segregated lunch counter. Reddick was later fired, and nine of the students who participated were expelled. Reddick went on to a distinguished career as an academic, and the nine students won a lawsuit, Dixon v. Alabama, in federal court that determined they were wrongfully expelled and codified a student's right to due process.
