Maxwell Air Force Base

Maxwell Air Force Base and Gunter Annex, in Montgomery County, began as Engine and Repair Depot 3 in 1918, built on the site of the former Wright Brothers flying school. The facility handled aviation repairs for the Army during World War I and has since become the training and education center for the U.S. Air Force, housing Air University.
