Artist Ben Shahn photographed fiddle player Mary McLean at Skyline Farms, a New Deal cooperative community in Jackson County, in 1937. He was one of a number of artists and photographers hired by the Farm Securities Administration to document the effects of the Great Depression on rural Americans.
