Mary Ivy Burks

Mary Ivy Burks (1920-2007), shown here with her husband Robert, was a leading figure in the Alabama environmental movement during the twentieth century. She led the formation of the Alabama Conservancy (now the Alabama Environmental Council), which advocated for the establishment of the Sipsey Wilderness Area in north Alabama.
