Marietta Johnson

Education reformer Marietta Johnson (1864-1938) founded a progressive experimental school, the School of Organic Education, in 1907 in Fairhope, Baldwin County, which structured curriculum against theories of childhood development. The school was a critical success and Johnson gained worldwide fame for her methods.
