Lionel Hampton photographed in a June 1946 performance at the Aquarium, a popular jazz club on 52nd Street in New York City that was a mecca for jazz musicians in the mid-twentieth century. The image, which also includes saxophonist Arnett Cobb, was captured by William P. Gottlieb, a noted jazz journalist who was also known for his photographs of jazz icons.
