Lineville is the largest city in Clay County. It is located in the eastern part of the county near Ashland, the county seat. Its original name was County Line for its location on what was the Talladega and Randolph County border during the late nineteenth century. The city's name was changed to Lineville in 1870 after Clay County was formed.
