Leroy Moton and his son, Leroy Moton Jr., stand next to an interpretive display at the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail interpretive center in Selma, Dallas County. Moton is pointing to the location where he and fellow civil rights worker Viola Liuzzo were attacked by Ku Klux Klan members on March 25, 1965, during the Selma to Montgomery March. Liuzzo was killed in the attack, and Moton was injured. Moton returned to Alabama to participate in the Trail Oral History Project in July 2022. Moton died in Connecticut on September 13, 2023.
