Laurie Calvin Battle (1912-2000) was a U.S. congressman who served Alabama's Ninth Congressional District for four terms. A native of Wilsonville, Shelby County, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and earned a Bronze Star for his meritorious combat service. In this photo, he holds the "Conservation Pledge" he signed during his failed U.S. Senate bid in 1954.
