King Monument in Selma

This monument to Martin Luther King Jr. stands in front of the historic Brown Chapel AME Church in Selma, Dallas County. It was dedicated in 1979 to honor King's efforts in the civil rights movement in Alabama, most notable in the Selma to Montgomery March. The monument also features the names of three martyrs to the cause: Jimmie (spelled Jimmy on the monument) Lee Jackson, Viola Gregg Liuzzo, and James Reeb.
