John Gorman Barr

John Gorman Barr (1823-1858) was a humorist during the mid-nineteenth century who wrote about real Alabama people and places in the Old Southwestern humor style, often focusing on common folk instead of elites. A transplant from North Carolina, lived in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, in his teen years and was educated at the University of Alabama.
