Following the June 5, 1972, assassination attempt on Alabama Gov. George Wallace, the wounded governor called his son, George Wallace Jr., and Lt. Gov. Jere Beasley from Holy Cross Hospital in Maryland. The conversation was broadcast to a crowd of supporters in Red Level, Alabama.
