James Orange

Birmingham native James Orange (bottom center) was a civil rights activist associated with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights. He was a tireless organizer of protests and other direct action, including the Poor People's Campaign and the Birmingham Campaign. This photograph was taken at a January 1965 voting rights meeting at Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church in Selma.
