Birmingham native Imani Perry (1972- ) is a scholar of African American culture, law, literature, and race and a Fellow of the MacArthur Foundation. She is perhaps best known for her book South to America: A Journey Below the Mason-Dixon to Understand the Soul of a Nation, which won the 2022 National Book Award for Nonfiction.
