This house in Valley, Chambers County, was the home of John Howard Parnell during his years in Alabama. It was constructed in the 1840s by plantation owner George Whitfield Huguely, who built the first cotton mill in the area, and sold it, along with 1,482 acres of the farm, to Parnell in 1867. It burned in 1954. Huguely's mill would later become part of the West Point Manufacturing Company.
