Fred "Dixie" Walker

Fred "Dixie" Walker (1910-1982) was a professional baseball player from Birmingham who played for the New York Yankees, the Chicago White Sox, and the Brooklyn Dodgers. He opposed the drafting of Jackie Robinson by the Dodgers to integrate baseball and asked to be traded. But he later recanted his opposition. He and his brother, Harry, are the only brothers to have won Major League Baseball batting titles thus far.
