Four Little Girls and MLK

This assemblage by Joe Minter is entitled Four Little Girls and MLK and is made from wood, metal, wire, and concrete paving stones. Metal chairs bear the names Carole, Cynthia, Addie Mae, and Denise, the four girls killed in the 1963 bombing of Birmingham’s Sixteenth Street Baptist Church.  The center chair is labeled for Martin Luther King Jr. The chairs are supported by a wooden beam on which the girls’ tombstone dates are painted.
