This lithograph of Fort Powell shows the layout of the structures on the artificial island constructed by Confederate troops. The fort was the only military installation in Mobile Bay built by the Confederacy. Troops abandoned and blew up the fort on August 5, 1864, under heavy bombardment by the U.S. Navy during the Battle of Mobile Bay.
