Ella Smith and Family

Inventor and dollmaker Ella Smith (1868-1932) poses here with her daughter and husband on a vacation. Smith gained national attention when she began selling her "Indestructible Doll" to the public. She operated a doll factory in Roanoke, Randolph County, for many years.
