Tuscaloosa native Deontay Leshun Wilder (1985- ) was the World Boxing Council heavyweight boxing champion from 2015 to 2020, the first American to hold the title since 2007. He was a bronze medalist in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, a national amateur boxing heavyweight champion, and national Golden Gloves heavyweight champion.
