Physician David Satcher (1941- ), a native of Anniston, served in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as both Surgeon General and Assistant Secretary for Health from 1998-2002. Prior to federal service he was a faculty member at UCLA and Morehouse College medical schools and he currently heads the Satcher Health Leadership Institute at Morehouse School of Medicine.
