David Black Jr. (1931-2018) was named the first chair of the Alabama Alliance for Arts Education (now the Alabama Arts Alliance) in 1976. In college, he was drum captain in the University of Alabama's Million Dollar Band, worked in the Montgomery school system, and then spent most of his career with the Alabama State Department of Education.
