David Bell Birney

Born in the Triana community of Madison County, David Bell Birney was a lawyer practicing in Philadelphia when the Civil War broke out. He helped raise the 23rd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry and saw action in many of the major battles of the war. He died of typhoid fever in October 1864.
