The CSS Selma was a Confederate warship built in 1856 in Mobile as the freighter Florida to carry mail for the Mobile Mail Line. In 1861, the ship was converted to a gunship and renamed the CSS Florida. When a new Confederate ship was christened the CSS Florida, this ship was renamed CSS Selma. The ship fought in the Battle of Mobile Bay and surrendered to U.S. Navy forces on August 5, 1864, the last Confederate ship to do so.
