This map shows the locations of the various Paleozoic coal basins found in north Alabama. The Cumberland Plateau Physiographic Section is a significant source of this important natural resource. The locales are: Cahaba Coal Region (CACR), Coosa Coal Region (CCR), Plateau Coal Region (PCR), and Warrior Coal Region (WCR). Red dots indicate the location of surface mines, and black dots indicate deep mines.
