Carter Manasco and Hoover Commission

Walker County native Carter Manasco (standing, far right) represented Alabama's Seventh Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1941-49. He is pictured here with his fellow members of the Commission on Organization of the Executive Branch of the Government, more commonly known as the Hoover Commission. It was organized in 1947 by Pres. Harry Truman and chaired by former Pres. Herbert Hoover with the aim of reorganizing the federal government to make it more efficient.
