Lifelong Lee County resident Caroline Lawson Ivey (1912-1972) authored the novel The Family, a tale of a southern aristocratic family reacting to societal changes. Ivey was educated at Alabama Polytechnic Institute (present-day Auburn University) and taught in Lee County and Auburn city schools.
