Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve

Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve near Tuscumbia, Colbert County, protects some 700 acres of land in northwest Alabama. It was established by author and educator James Lacefield and his wife, Faye, in 1979, when they purchased 40 acres of property. In 1996, after acquiring hundreds more acres, the couple opened the property to the public for use of the miles of hiking trails that they built themselves. The preserve is home to canyons, waterfalls, sandstone cliffs, and other natural features and is now managed by the Land Trust of North Alabama.
