Books-A-Million is a large book retailer with more than 250 stores in 32 states. It began as a small news stand established by Clyde W. Anderson in 1917 on Court Street in Florence, Lauderdale County. Books-A-Million was publicly traded for many years, but in 2015, the founder's grandson Clyde B. Anderson and his family reacquired the company.
