Benjamin Fitzpatrick

Benjamin Fitzpatrick came to what was the Mississippi Territory alone at age 14 and worked as a clerk in Wetumpka and studied law in Montgomery before entering politics as circuit solicitor in 1821. He left politics to manage a plantation when he married Sarah Terry Elmore, but returned to the scene in 1837 in a failed bid for the governor's office. He won it in 1841.
