Bartley Harris (1800-1896) was the second pastor of Alabama's oldest African American congregation. In 1909, the church was rededicated as Saint Bartley Steadfast Primitive Baptist Church in his honor. Harris is pictured here in a watercolor portrait by Maria Howard Weeden.
