Gen. Arthur St. Clair

St. Clair County is named in honor of Arthur St. Clair (1736-1818), shown here in a ca. 1783 portrait by Charles Willson Peale. St. Clair was a general in the Continental Army during the American Revolution and served as the ninth president of the Continental Congress and governor of the Northwest Territory.
