Appalachiosaurus montgomeriensis, a Cretaceous carnivore in the tyrannosaur family, is named for the type specimen found near Montgomery, Montgomery County, by a geology professor at Auburn University. The life-size model depicted here is on display at the McWane Science Center in downtown Birmingham, Jefferson County, which houses the type specimen.
