Angelo Herndon

Angelo Herndon (1913-1997) was a labor organizer who was imprisoned for insurrection for his efforts to organize workers in the South and for his ties to the Communist Party of America. A native of Ohio, Herndon worked for the Tennessee Coal, Iron, and Railroad Company in Birmingham during his teens. It was there that he became involved in the fight for workers’ rights and was arrested several times in Alabama for his activities, including his work with the Croppers and Farm Workers Union.
