Alligator Gar

The alligator gar (Atractosteus spatula) was named for its short broad alligator-like snout. It is the largest of four gar species found in Alabama. Adults reach lengths of 6 to 8 feet and weights of 100 or more pounds. Alligator gar feed on turtles, fishes, and birds.
