The Alabama shad (Alosa alabamae) is found in Alabama in the river systems of the southern half of the state. It is listed as a Species of Special Concern by the National Marine Fishes Service because many of its inland spawning routes have been blocked by high-lift locks and dams. Alabama shad still spawn in sections of the Choctawhatchee and Conecuh rivers.
