This illustration, by Auburn University student Jarel Bartig, diagrams the structure of a single stem and the parts of the clumping Alabama leather flower. The main illustration shows the root-producing rhizome at the bottom, the two different types of leaves, and the single flower at the top. A cross-section of the flower is located in the lower left-hand corner, and a cluster of seedpods, or achenes, is located in the lower right-hand corner.
