Charles Tait (1768-1835) was a U.S. senator representing Georgia during the early nineteenth century. In 1820, Pres. James Monroe appointed him as Alabama's first U.S. district court judge. Tait was instrumental in promoting the legislation that allowed Alabama to become a U.S. state in 1819.
