Edmund Rucker

Edmund W. Rucker (1835-1924) served in the Confederate Army under Gen. Nathan B. Forrest during the Civil War and later became a successful Birmingham industrialist. Fort Rucker, in Coffee and Dale Counties, was named in his honor. In 2025, it was renamed in honor of World War I aviator Edward W. Rucker to avoid connection with the Confederacy.
