Lakepoint Resort State Park

Lakepoint Resort State Park Lakepoint Resort State Park is located in Barbour County, seven miles north of the city of Eufaula. The park is located on the banks of 45,000-acre Lake Eufaula, a nationally famous lake known as the “Bass Capital of the World.” Park facilities include a lodge, two restaurants, a convention center, modern campground with more than 190 sites, cabins and lakeside cottages, picnic areas, 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, a marina and boat launching ramps.

The initial land purchase for Lakepoint occurred in 1968, when the state purchased 768 acres adjoining Walter F. George Reservoir (now Lake Eufaula). Additional land acquisitions later brought the total acreage up to the park’s present 1,220 acres. In 1972, the park added an 18-hole golf course, and two years later, additional day-use facilities and a campground were added.

The Lodge and Convention Center, which was originally constructed in the late 1960s, reopened in August 2009 after undergoing a major two-year renovation effort, offers 101 guest rooms and nine large meeting rooms that can handle up to 500 people for banquets, weddings, receptions and reunions. The Lakeside Terrace at the lodge is an outdoor promenade overlooking the lake. There are three restaurants, as well as a large picnic area with tables and a playground also overlooks the lake and includes four large covered pavilions for rent.

In addition to the lodge, the park also hosts 29 cabins and eight lakeside cottages, some of which have porches with views of Lake Eufaula. The park’s campground features 245 improved campsites. Deer Court has pull through sites including water, electricity and sewage. Barbour and Clark Loop sites include water and electricity. The campground has bathhouses located in each camping area, a sanitary station, a camp store, laundry facilities, a large meeting building available for large groups, tennis courts, and a children’s playground.

For boaters, the marina has both covered and uncovered slips for rent as well as boat rentals. A marina store sells fishing licenses, bait and tackle, snacks, drinks and supplies. The marina restaurant offers an outdoor patio overlooking Lake Eufaula which is an important location for national bass fishing tournaments. The lake also hosts healthy populations of other fish such as catfish, bream, and crappie.

The park’s 18-hole championship golf course includes a clubhouse with shower and bathroom facilities and a pro shop that sells apparel, supplies, and refreshments. A practice green and driving range are located near the clubhouse. There are seven hiking trails that total over five miles in length. Lakepoint is a popular hiking destination for birdwatchers as it is located adjacent to Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge.
