Campaign for EOA

A statewide campaign is underway to raise the funds needed to launch EOA. Leading the fundraising effort is the Campaign Steering Committee, which comprises business leaders, educators, civic leaders, and economic development professionals. The committee members recognize the unique opportunity offered by EOA for improving perceptions and appreciation of Alabama by providing a quality reference resource for its citizens and the world.

What is needed to move the project forward?

The project’s progress gained steam when the National Endowment for the Humanities awarded a planning grant and the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs provided $100,000 to get the project started. These early grants, plus in-kind support from the Alabama Humanities Foundation, Auburn University, and the University of Alabama Press, contributed significantly to the estimated $2.1 million needed to get EOA online. Most of the costs for EOA will be incurred during the years leading up to its launch in 2007 and during the following four years, when the majority of the additional content is developed. The campaign’s goal is to raise $1.55 million, a little more than 34 cents per Alabama resident.
