John Lawson Burnett

John Lawson Burnett (1854-1919) represented Alabama's Seventh District from 1899 until his death in 1919. He was known for his anti-immigrant views as well as voting against the declaration of war against Imperial Germany in April 1917, an unpopular stance as the United States entered World War I. Prior to serving in the U.S. Congress, Burnett was a member of the Alabama Senate and House of Representatives.
