Florence Synodical Female College, 1860

The Florence Synodical Female College, depicted here in this painting from 1860, opened in 1855 in Florence, Lauderdale County. It was an institution of higher education for white women operated by the Presbyterian Synod of Nashville and served the 1893. By 1972, all of its buildings had been demolished. A historic marker stands on the school's former location in downtown Florence.
