Novelist and journalist Elise Sanguinetti (1926-2014) was a member of the distinguished Ayers family of newspaper publishers. Her father, Harry Mell Ayers, founded the Anniston Star in Anniston, Calhoun County, in 1912. Her novels and short stories focus on creating complex southern characters aimed at countering the stereotypes most common in the national culture of the United States.
